My DIY denim vest

During my semester in Italy I lived on Via Ghibelina (a main street in the city). Very close to my apartment was a local foods market, Mercato Sant'Ambrogio. I LOVED it. There were fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, meats, and cheeses. But maybe the best part of the market was the thrift store-esque area outside where locals sold and bought their used clothing for dirt cheap. The market was one of my favorite parts of Florence, because it was filled with locals. Almost nobody spoke English and I felt so immersed in the culture.

One of my favorite ever purchases was a thin denim men's vest. It is oversized, and SO cute. I cut off the seams where sleeves would go to give it kind of a more rugged look.

Then, I thought, "how can I make it even more unique and special?" WELL, I figured it out. I got some patches from a little store in Florence, and then when I came home to the States I grabbed some more patches from Joann's Fabric along with one from a small store in Manchester, NH.

One problem: I don't have an iron. So I thought about what else I could use...

Finally I thought of it!! My hair straightener, a Remington would probably do the same thing that an iron would do. I tried it out and it worked!

Using my hair straightener, I was able to attach each of my patches and create something truly unique. I am extremely hoppy with how this came out and can't wait to share photos of this vest in different outfits with you all on my Instagram!

Ciao for now!
